Mystic, Starting of the New Year the Wrong Way.

Mystic: Last night I was laying on mom’s bed relaxing, taking up most of the bed as usual. Dad noticed a wet spot on the bed. They thought one of us wet the bed. Mom was suspicious because neither of us ever go potty inside. They blamed Ruca at first, oops! Mom was brave and smelled the sheets and it didn’t smell like urine but of course she washed all of the sheets anyway. I tried to tell her I didn’t go potty on the bed but she wasn’t sure.

Because it was so late, we ended up sleeping in the spare room because there were no blankets for our bed. It was strange sleeping somewhere else to start of with, I just wanted to sleep in our usual, bigger, bed. I was restless all night and couldn’t fall asleep. I kept having a hard time swallowing throughout the night, making strange noises, and was drooling excessively. (Drool=wet spot on mom’s bed. I never said it wasn’t me, but I didn’t go potty on the bed) Mom woke up because she noticed I was making funny noises and checked on me and eventually went back to sleep thinking it was nothing. I kept making weird noises all night and was restless so mom couldn’t sleep either. She woke up at 3:30 am and took me downstairs and tried to make me feel better, she gave me food and water, took me potty and fed me some honey. They honey was so good but it didn’t help. We tried to go back to sleep but neither of us could sleep, I’m sure mom would of fallen asleep if I would of, but I couldn’t and she was worried. So she stayed up with me the rest of the morning until she had to go to work. I felt slightly better before she left, so she made sure I was comfortable in my crate with my Kong.

Mom came home from work early to make sure I was doing alright. I am feeling a little better and have been resting. I can sleep without making funny noises and am drooling a little less. I have been eating and drinking, have my normal appetite and played with Ruca in the snow. I didn’t want to stop playing but mom said I should rest, what does she know. So we have just been resting most of the night. Mom was suppose to go out with a friend, but decided to stay home and make sure I was alright. She probably worries too much…

Mom is worried about me. I told her it is probably nothing. Fingers crossed I feel better tomorrow. Mom says 2015 is suppose to have less vet appointments than last year, but no promises.

1 year of Mystic-al fun

One year ago today this ball of fire became a part of my life and I wouldn’t change it for a thing.

I remember looking online, knowing that someday I wanted another puppy, I just didn’t think it would be that soon. So I was browsing looking at all the adorable puppies who needed forever homes, admiring the beauty of each dog but not expecting to find another puppy to bring home. Then I came across Mystic pictures and fell in love instantly. I knew she had to be mine, she was so unique. So I beg my husband and he agrees we can go look at her the next morning, she was going to be at an adoption event downtown. So we go ahead with our plans for the evening, meet up with a few friends at the bar. I may have had one (maybe two 😉 ) too many drinks that night. So the next morning we are laying in bed and my alarm goes off, I set my alarm to wake up to look at, then “Noir”, now Mystic. My alarm goes off and of course my head is pounding from prior night festivities. I ask my husband if he wants to go or if he wants to sleep and he tells me it is up to me. I think about it and decide I want to sleep. So I lay there for 5 minutes and of course I can’t sleep because all I can think about is this puppy. So I wake my husband back up and tell him I want to go look at her. So we sluggishly get out of bed, throw on some sun glasses, grab some water and head downtown. We get lost on the way, already running behind. I decide whatever is meant to be will be, I doubt she will still be there because we are already over an hour late, I am sure people were lining up to adopt her. So we finally arrive and find a parking spot and start walking. Of course the adoption event was on the opposite side from where we parked, so after what felt like a long walk we finally arrived at the adoption booth. I see a crate on the floor with some puppies and here is this little blue merle puppy playing away. I tell myself, “I’m sure someone is filling out paperwork to adopt her already.”. It seems as if there were 100 people there. I don’t even walk up to the puppies, I walk straight to the adoption counter and ask if “noir” had been adopted yet. surprisingly the answer was no. I am in shock and immediately tell them I want to adopt her. I didn’t even talk it over with my husband, I began filling the paperwork out. At this point my hand is shaking, partially from drinking slightly too much the night before and from being excited and hopeful everything would work out to bring “noir” to her new forever home. After what felt like forever, the adoption process was over and I was officially “Noir’s” new mom.

On our way to “Noir’s” new FOREVER home!

So we are driving in the car, thinking of names. Going through all the typical names and all the names we thought we would name our new dog but none of them seem to fit. So my husband is looking at her and says “she is so mystical looking, she is unique”.. And then it hit me! “Mystic!” It was perfect.

It has been a busy year and Mystic and I have learned a lot from each other. definitely not the dog I expected to have but just what I needed in my life. Mystic has come a long way. When we first got her she really didn’t want much to do with us, she didn’t like to cuddle and most of the time didn’t even care if she was in the same room as us. She was, and still is, very independent. For a good month I literally thought her tail was broken because she never wagged it and never really showed signs of being happy besides playing with my other dog, Ruca. She slowly started to trust us and realize she wasn’t going anywhere. Now her tail wags every time she sees us 🙂

Every day is an adventure with Mystic. She has a huge personality. I look forward and cherish every day, she can always put a smile on my face.  As the rescues we got Mystic from says, “The best things in life are rescued!” Isn’t that the truth?

ND Adventure

Ruca: Mom always goes back to ND for the fourth of July to see the rest of her human pack. She takes us along because she says she doesn’t trust anyone watching us for that long. Im glad because I don’t think I could be without her for a day, I know Mystic wouldn’t probably be okay, but I’m not sure I would survive. I knew something was different because before we left Mom was packing her things and cleaning our den like a crazy lady, I mean she is always kinda crazy when is comes to cleaning and just in general, but she was crazier than usual. Then when it was time to get in the car I had to be sure it was where we were going. We passed the dog park….. yup, we were in store for a LONG ride.

Mom said I did really good in the car, before Mystic was added to our pack I would have to sit on moms lap in the passengers seat for part of the ride… I got lonely in the backseat. But this time Mystic was there to keep me company. We mostly slept and watched out the windows, on the search for cows and whatever else would come along. Which driving through Wyoming, SD and ND, there isn’t much to look at besides grass, and cows…. lots of cows. But once we finally arrived to our destination I knew where we were the minute we pulled off the busy road. I couldn’t contain my excitement, the smells and sights were so familiar, I knew we were at grandma’s and we were going to have lots of fun. I whined with excitement the whole way to her house, at 530 am. Plus that meant I got to spend more time with my mom and dad because they wouldn’t be at work all day.  When we arrived I got out of the car and ran around with excitement!

We had a lot of fun in ND, and we met a lot of new people. I was timid at first, unlike Mystic, who smothers everyone in kisses the moment she see’s someone. It takes me awhile to warm up to people, I just want to make sure they are safe. But I learned they were decent and by the end of our time I didn’t want to leave them.

Mystic: We had so much fun running around our grandma’s den, it is much much bigger than ours. Lots of room to run around and plenty of stairs to scale.

I only had one accident in the house, mom said I shouldn’t of had any, but it was a new place and I was just so excited to be there.

Ruca: Mystic and I would wait outside the bathroom door for Mom, had to make sure she was safe.

Mom had part of her pack from Connecticut staying there too. We never met them before, so one morning a strange girl came out of her room while Dad was in the shower. We didn’t know if she was “safe” or if we needed to guard the door. So we barked and growled at her, she waited in the living room until Dad got out of the shower. When dad came out he yelled at us for scaring her half to death, but what does he expect, we were only doing our job and protecting him. By the end of the week the “strange lady” wasn’t so strange after all.

Mystic: Grandma’s house has huge stairs that I loved to run up and down. I would sit and watch over everyone below.

We also played with the laser light alot, it is so fun. Must get the red dot.

Ruca: The 4th of July was an interesting day. We had fun during the day playing in the river, Mystic did more swimming than me. I prefer not to get my shiny coat that dirty. I went in to cool off but that was about it. There were lots of people and dogs to play with. The random booming noises didn’t bother me during the day but at night it was too overwhelming so mom and dad had to put me inside until it was over. It was nice to get a break from Mystic anyway.

Mystic: I LOVED the 4th of July. I spent half the day swimming in the river and cooling off, it was soo cold and felt sooo good on the hot day. Ruca didn’t want to play in the water though, she is a party pooper. Mom said I had to stay on a leash, unlike Ruca, Man she is spoiled. I know I have to work on listening better, I know the commands but when I want to go somewhere, I just want to go check it out. Mom gets worried I won’t come back though, we are working on it, but there is just soo many fun adventures it is hard to listen sometimes!

There were lots of people and dogs to play with. I had so much fun, not everyone enjoyed my kisses though. Mom says I have to work on not jumping on people to kiss them, but what fun is that? Everyone loves puppy kisses don’t they?

I thought the fireworks were soooo cool. They were loud, but I didn’t mind. I would jump and bark at them, but after awhile mom made me stop, she didn’t want me to get hurt. She is always spoiling my fun.

Ruca: The car ride was long…. This bucket made a nice pillow for awhile though.

Ruca: Soooooooo Long…….. I couldn’t sleep the whole time, so I watched for cows out the window, and the occassional one with antlers.

Finally we made it home, late, but we made it. We jumped up into the bed right away. We were sooo tired. We had so much fun, but it is good to be back in our own den. We can’t wait to go back for another adventure.

TGIF! We are so glad it is Friday! Mom and Dad took us for a walk when they got home from wherever they go all week long, they call it work, whatever that is. We enjoyed a beautiful Colorado day! 50 degrees today, can’t complain!

Mystic: I love going on walks! I get tired faster than my big sister but maybe someday I will be able to keep up with her. Mom and Dad are trying to teach me this “heel” thing. I haven’t quite figured it out. But that is not my main concern when I take my humans for a walk. I have a fascination with cars! At first they kind of scare me but when they drive by all I want to do is chase them. Mom and Dad are also trying to teach me not to do this, I have no idea why, it is so much fun! We went and walked in the canyon and found lots of new smells. I protect my humans and big sister and growl and anything that seems intimidating, such as the ball that was laying in the field. I can’t wait until our walk tomorrow, they are great!

Ruca: Walks are one of my FAVORITE things. Mom and dad cant even say the word with me around because I can’t contain my excitement. I have no idea how Mystic contains her excitement…. maybe she hasn’t quite figured out the word “WALK” yet. I also am still trying to obey the “heel” command. I know what I am suppose to do but can’t contain the excitement of being on a walk and tend to talk my humans for a walk instead. I don’t think Mystic will ever be able to keep up with me, she is the puppy, it is suppose to be hard to keep up with her but when we go for walks she is the one trying to keep up with me. Mystic decided to sleep when we got home for a walk. I took advantage of the puppy free time to cuddle with my humans, I love them. TGIF, you know what that means. I get to spend the next two FULL days with my humans!

Mystic the Catahoula Mix

Hi, my name is Mystic. I am a Catahoula mix. My mom and dad adopted me from a rescue, they were told I was an Amercian Bulldog mix but have obvious signs of Catahoula in my coat and personality. But it doesn’t matter what I am, I am cute no matter what. My mom was looking at the local rescues and came across my picture. They were looking for another puppy and friend for Ruca and mom knew she had to have me. She told my dad and he was hesitant at first but eventually fell for my cuteness. They next day they went to the adoption event and I was still there, they walked straight over to the adoption counter and filled out paperwork to take me home. They took me home that day and we have been a family ever since. The day they took me home they knew I was going to be a ball of fire and have a HUGE personality. I jumped right on Ruca and wasn’t afraid to bite her neck and play rough. I always stand my ground and never give up, I like to think I am the alpha, but my mom tells me otherwise. I am not afraid of much, even big great danes at the dog park. The only thing that scares me is the vacuum and garbage bags. I enjoy guarding the house with my sister Ruca, going to the dog park, playing with my toys and running in the yard. Since mom and dad have rescues me I have had a few scares at the vet, the last week I decided it would be a good idea to eat something I shouldn’t have and had to spend the day at the vet. Mom and Dad said I scared them half to death, but I was only being a puppy and whatever I ate sure tasted good. As you can see I have a lot of fun. Follow me and my sister on our daily doggy adventures.
